Welcome.

I honestly dont know what to say about this piece. There are so many jumbled thoughts in my head. About feminism, motherhood, sex, marriage, children, how selfish we are about having kids; how we don’t want children because we have our own plan for life, without even considering what God would want for our families. And I’m thinking about young women who feel pressure to “make something of themselves” from a world that doesn’t see the value of motherhood, a culture that pressures women to act like men.

I’m still processing all this.

While I’m at it, I want to hear your thoughts Tumblr. Send me a message, reblog this and explain your own thoughts, leave a photo reply. How do you feel about any of these issues? Do you want to give up a career for motherhood? What are some false beliefs our culture has towards marriage and motherhood? Or just what do you want to name your kids?  I would love to hear from some feminists. So if you are a feminist or know one, this is your soapbox!

“The tragedy of sin is not that you did something wrong, but that you left God”

The ultimate goal of Christianity is to know, follow, and worship God. The relationship between God and ourself is freeing, and intimate, and encouraging, and convicting, and purifying. It’s wonderful, and it’s terrible that many Christians, myself included, can turn our relationship with God into something that brings us shame and guilt. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, but instead of focusing on the love of God, many Christians use feelings of condemnation a motivator to live a holy life.

I pray we have the same attitude as Paul; “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.”

"For me theology and science, and neuroscience, are going to achieve little unless they start talking to each other. There are fresh insights that theology has for science, and vice versa. And the great theological truths that humans are unique, that we are in some way god-like, that we are the only beasts that are moral, these are things that scientists have to somehow conjure with and study."

“There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.”

-Pythagoras

Stream of Consciousness:

One of the most beautiful things in the world to me is Fluid Mechanics. Let me preface by saying I take a Libertarian view of free will, but every act and movement of any liquid can be traced back to a previous set of actions, a sort of Determinism. There is a certain set of conditions (the temperature of the liquid, the density of said liquid, atmospheric conditions, kinetic energy of the liquid, gravity, active bodies within the liquid, etc.) and because of those conditions, the liquid can only take one specific course.

Have you ever tried to guess what that course will be? Have you ever tried to guess how the waves of the ocean will break? Or how the water out of a shower head will splash as it hits the floor?

Chaos Theory tells us that there is some order to what seems to be random, but I can spend hours staring at a fountain and not find the pattern.

Everything in Science points to some quality of the Creator.

Think about it.

God is the source of all beauty. He is also the source of all order, however imperceptible it may be.

“When He talks of their losing their selves He only means abandoning the clamor of self-will; once they have done that, He really gives them back their personality, and boasts that when they are wholly His they are more themselves than ever.”

I believe things about myself that aren’t true.

God is teaching me who I really am. He is teaching me what really satisfies and how to love myself.

Does it make you uncomfortable to pray for terrorists? Can you look past their sometimes misguided beliefs to see them as children of God? Can you find common ground with them?

Does it make you uncomfortable to pray for U.S. soldiers? Do you resent them for the evils done by American forces? Are you so blinded by your patriotism that you don’t even bother to think critically about our government?

-

feel free to pass this around if you want the Church to start loving people because God does, not on the basis of their political or religious affiliation.

Daniel Johnston sings a song called “God” in which he states that he is glad God made him.

I’ve been learning what it means to love myself over these last few months, but that line made me a bit uncomfortable.

Then I got over it. Things aren’t exactly how I would prefer them to be on this day, but I’m happy with the job God is doing.

Anonymous asked: How would you suggest I maintain my faith, outside of going to church? I already read the Bible and "pray" everyday, but I feel like my prayer has gotten somewhat superficial and repetitive, and I was wondering if you had any tips as to how to reconnect with God/maintain a better relationship with Him?

Sure!

Going to church is an awesome opportunity to meet with and learn about God, but one of the biggest reasons for it is to meet with other believers. Church is supposed to be a community of people who love each other and love God. I think one of the biggest ways to connect with God is to connect with His people. Find a church you love and get plugged in. Find people in the church you get along with and who would be good influences. Most churches have “small groups” that meet together to talk about God and to live life together.

One of the biggest reasons people get pulled away from God is because of bad relationships.

So find some Christian friends; or if you have some, try to deepen your relationship with them.  Pray with them, talk with them, have fun with them.

Other ways:

-Find some good podcasts. (Mark Driscoll, Andy Stanley, R. C. Sproul all have some rockin podcasts)

-Serve people. Maybe it’s in children’s church, or feeding the homeless, or working at a domestic violence shelter. I can not express how important it is to serve, love and minister to other people.

-Keep a journal. Write your prayers in it.

-Good Christian music. Find anything that you like that is encouraging. I like Enter the Worship Circle, The Welcome Wagon, Sufjan Steven’s Seven Swans, So Long Forgotten, John Mark McMillian, Jon Foreman and many more.

-Read books. There are tons of terrible Christian books out there so be careful. I enjoy C. S. Lewis, Donald Miller, and Shane Claiborne.

-Find something you truly, purely, enjoy. God shows up in strange places, and very often in the things we were created to enjoy. Maybe it’s poetry, or art, or music, or film, or sex with your spouse, or nature, or tacos.

-

Understand at the end of the day that God wants to know and love you. Ultimately it’s God who draws us to Himself; we just have to be willing purposeful in setting time aside to meet with Him and study the Bible.
